Choice is internal and all human beings have the capacity for compassion
Practitioners of NVC increase their awareness of, and internal capacity to, attend to their need for autonomy by making conscious choices based on awareness of needs, regardless of the circumstances. Simultaneously, practitioners understand that all humans have an innate capacity for compassion - though not always the knowledge of how to access it - and so they navigate systems of authority consciously, holding great respect for individuals in position of power and vigilant of subservience out of fear of authority. In this way practitioners cultivate conscience and participate choice-fully in democratic processes. They compassionately use the skills of empathy and self-expression to participate and promote the life-serving strategies within communities and systems.
